Ashton Kutchner Becomes Top Tweet

kutchner twittered cnn
Actor Ashton Kutchner has become the first person to achieve one million followers on Twitter. Kutcher triumphed over CNN in their much ballyhooed race to be the first to reach a million followers on the micro blogging Web site. Kutchner surpassed that benchmark in the early morning hours Friday [17th], narrowly edging out the breaking news feed from the Time Warner Inc-owned network.

We have shown the world that the new wave is here. It is present and it is ready to explode. You guys are all of it because I can't follow me.

Those are the words of Kutchner, a proud revolutionary, the new savior of our planet, spoken in a live webcast.

Britney Spears is close behind and a new-comer to the scene, Oprah Winfrey has started strong and already passed the 100,000 mark.

Tweet is sweet, explosion is imminent, the new wave has come.

  2. Wait? "new wave is here"??? Does that mean that things are changing? That is what he seems to imply... people following celebs does not seem new or a dramatic change to me. Britney Spears is a hot topic on the internet? Who knew (Scarcasm Intentional).

Maybe if people were talking about local news, or politics that is not covered in the main stream media that would be "change".

  3. Yes, "the new wave" has arrived with all its bells and whistles. Pioneered by pop stars and actor/actresses, it is twittering at our doorstep. Joe the plummer (sic) is expected to join the bandwagon anytime.

This "wave" is a bit different, however, from for example the hippie wave of the 60s. They had a manifesto, sort of, a political agenda. This one has none, so it is more revolutionary with an ueber vision promising tweets for mankind.

  4. I first heard about twitter and Ashton when he posted a picture of his wife's butt (with underwear of course). I don't know if it was real so I just ignored it. It's just now, with this post, that I got convinced. I guess celebrities do twit (tweet) also. :)

  5. I was not aware Ashton posted a picture of his wife's butt. Now that I know, it does not do justice if we only say he twits, he is beyond that.

I can understand, to a certain extent, of course, that people do weird things to draw attention. But celebrities do attract millions and I do not see the merit of doing extra (like posting your wife's picture) things. I assume he knows better as he is twitter than I am.

  6. I just don't get Twitter. I am a housewife, so what am I going to do, stop sweeping the floor to let all friends know I'm sweeping the floor? I do use it, it has helped my blog grow, and I guess it is a really great form of social media. I just think I'm a bit too boring for Twittering!

  7. You look pretty much normal to me Nessa. I, too sweep the floor, do the laundry but have never thought of tweeting about those activities.

  8. The cool thing to do is to diss celebrities like Ashton Kutchner, and the like. However, they have every right to Tweet, just like the rest of us do. I jumped on the Kutchner bandwagon because - well - why not? I don't have anything against Ashton Kutchner. He's not raping young women in Africa. He's not killing female babies in China. He's just a celebrity who makes money entertaining us. If we didn't need entertainment, he wouldn't be so rich. Twitter is an excellent platform for celebrities. I get a kick out of the fact, for example, that I can get Tweets from Courtney Love. ( I love the Love.)

  9. I am with you on Courtney, MHH. Maybe I should follow her tweets. Joke aside, I do not criticize Kutchner for tweeting or whatever-ing. I only find this how-many-follows-who competition absurd. Otherwise, I can clearly see the entertainment value behind.

  10. Ah, he deserves it!
I heard it once from Chelsea (on Chelsea Lately) that some celeb dude challenge Ashotn to a Largest Twitter Follower contest in 24 hours. Must be stupid or drunk to have said that. haha.

    I'm an Ashton Kutcher fan!
