The statue of Vladimir Lenin, who led the Bolshevik revolution that carried the Communists to power in 1917,
has been bombed. The anonymous bomber who later called several news agencies reportedly claimed that he was afraid Lenin was going to laugh his ass off after recent economic downturn. "Being a thoroughbred capitalist, I could not let that happen," he said and continued:
"I was careful to blow a hole in only the most appropriate part of the statue in St. Petersburg (previously Leningrad). I am not an enemy of culture like those Taliban insurgents. Besides, I believe, my work has brought a fresh air to modern sculpture."
